High Contrast Anatomies

High Contrast Anatomies started as my self-discovery journey as an artist, where the eye and the body were the main objects. As my inner world opened up, the art reflected my attempt to reach, speak, portray it outward.

I realised in that process that I seek art as a romantic, I create art as a romantic. I see life for what it is, but I choose to see it through rose-coloured glasses. I choose to believe there's deeper meaning to anything and everything — my personal idea of a 'contemporary romanticism'.

Fuelled by passion and a deep appreciation for natural life, as I move through this world and meet its challenges I dream of the scenes depicted in my paintings.

The Carnival of Animals — second phase of the collection — showcases my depiction of human emotion through nature's creations: animals. Each unique characteristic found in animals can be compared to facets of human nature and contemporary human life. The grace of a swan, the strength of a horse: I choose to see the world through them — simple creations of life, moved around by independent forces, just like humans at the mercy of contemporary existence.

In some ways, I find animals to be freer than us. My animals are depicted free, uninhibited.

A swan — a dancer under the moon — past the humble beginning of looking so grey and shy, turned graceful and beautiful, free to fly away wherever she pleases. A horse, choosing to feed on bright red grass, because it deems the fuel of its passion whatever path it walks on, and refuses the idea of the greener grass of its neighbours. A skull, what is left of what was once living, but got lost in a desert of unknown, from not belonging anywhere — the death of its hopes, dreams and time, because it did not move, it did not nourish itself: an immigrant, waiting for a place to call home. A fish, so surrounded by darkness it has to create its own light, its own north star, to keep swimming, to survive. An angel — a woman reborn, free enough to spread her wings and surrender to the sun — taking in its light and accepting her fate, ascending into something better, into the change she has longed for and feared, while wearing her heart on her sleeve and reaching for a star.

Ultimately, my paintings represent my deep desire for freedom, my praise for individuality, and a deep passion for moving fearlessly — even when you're not sure which way to go.
